Some stories unfold gradually, gaining momentum over time until a defining moment brings everything into focus.
NITE X founder La Reinarde had been following bunkr.’s work long before this episode took shape. Their steady presence and distinct voice within New Jersey’s creative scene first sparked admiration, which gradually evolved into a deeper sense of alignment. That resonance came into sharp focus during a panel they hosted in NYC on the evolution of nightlife, which brought together artists, producers, promoters, and organizers from across the industry. It was there that their broader impact became unmistakable – bunkr. wasn’t just organizing events, but cultivating space for education, dialogue, and the kind of relationships that build scenes, not just moments.
Rooted in Newark, bunkr. has built a full creative ecosystem that supports artists at every level. Their brick-and-mortar studio offers DJing courses, crash courses on CDJ use, and a space where artists can practice, record, and refine their craft. But their influence radiates far beyond the studio walls. From open deck nights to R&B parties, from museum takeovers to secret location sets filmed with ODR Studios, their programming reaches across the tri-state area while staying grounded in New Jersey’s rich musical legacy.
Intentionality is at the core of bunkr.'s work. Every event is thoughtfully crafted – not a one-size-fits-all formula, but a tailored experience shaped by genre, community, and collaboration. Their hybrid model – where nightlife intersects with education, and creative production blends with grassroots organizing – embodies the values we aim to highlight throughout the series and is precisely what made bunkr. such a strong fit for NXT.
What impressed us most throughout the filming process wasn’t just the scale of what bunkr. has built, but the way they’ve done it: with care, consistency, and a genuine belief in the power of community. From mentoring emerging DJs to bringing together disparate creative hubs across Newark, Jersey City, and NYC, bunkr.'s work reflects the full spectrum of what it means to build something lasting.
bunkr.’s work is especially important considering New Jersey’s musical legacy. Newark, in particular, has played a crucial role in the evolution of house music, yet it often flies under the radar in broader cultural conversations. bunkr. is shifting that narrative by spotlighting local talent and reminding audiences that Newark’s scene is vibrant, evolving, and influential.
Filming this episode felt like entering a larger conversation already in progress – one built on years of friendship, collaboration, and vision. Co-founders NKNX and Joshua Garcia are two DJs with distinct tastes but shared passion and trust in the process. That energy runs through everything they touch, from intimate workshops to high-production performances.
What we captured goes beyond behind-the-scenes footage. It’s a portrait of what it means to build something meaningful from the ground up – and a testament to how far a DIY spirit can go when paired with care, trust, and the right people.
We’re excited to share bunkr.'s story, not just for what they’ve created, but for what they continue to inspire in others.
