Engineer, Producer & Rapper
Origin: Miami, Florida
We were lucky to have a conversation with QIL, an upcoming rapper, producer, and engineer from Miami and talk about the importance of self-love, his love for all types more music, and more. Check out the interview below and don't forget to check out a snippet on our IGTV / Youtube of the interview:
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who is QIL?
My name is QIL (pronounced kweel). I'm an artist, producer, and engineer based out of South Florida (Miami). I recently released my project, “Dandelions.” It's out now on every platform. Go listen to it. I love to make music and I love pizza.
I guess that's a side part of your brand, haha. When did you start making music?
I started writing music in the fourth grade. I've never stopped since then. I started recording in eighth grade and developed my sound throughout high school just being in my room doing everything by myself. Since then, I've just been going. It's something I've always wanted to do. I never really thought about it.
What made you want to begin?
When I was little, it was just something I gravitated towards. I just did it.
What was your creative process behind your most recent project, “Dandelions”?
I spent the last six months of 2018 completely away from social media and I recorded as much music as possible. I got out of my last relationship and I was kinda to the point of depression. So, I locked myself in my room as much as possible. By 2019, I had a whole lot of music. I didn't know how I wanted it out yet. So, I decided that I wanted to put out a project that I could continuously listen to while I was going through something. So then I came up with "Dandelions." So that's really it and how I made it and why I put it out. I put the energy into the world.

Do you have a specific art medium that you gravitate towards the most that give you inspiration?
To be honest, my inspiration comes from life. Things that I see, regular day-to-day motion, people's struggles. That pushes me to make music and inspires me. But as of inspiration through works, really from my favorite artists; Michael Jackson, The Weeknd, and Meek Mill. That's really where I get my inspiration from.
What's something people don't know about you?
I'm really insecure about my work, to be honest. I feel like a lot of people don't know that. I don't know, I just feel like I'm ass. I feel like I'm trash a lot of the times but people tell me otherwise. I guess I'm chilling.
What are you currently listening to?
Honestly, right now, I'm everywhere like Polo G to myself. I spend a lot of time listening to my own shit just trying to perfect my craft.
What's next for you? Any exciting news you might want to spill to humanity?
I have a video in the works for the track "Good Life." I'm in the early stages of my next project though.
I thought your video where you were in the shopping cart was pretty cool (video attached above), what was the creative process behind that?
That song was made in 2017. Shit's old as fuck but I've had that idea since then. I had the opportunity to make it come to life. Shoutout to everybody that fucked with that shit.
Do you have a specific motto or quote you live by?
Just be yourself, to be honest. That's pretty much it.
Don't forget to check out QIL on Instagram and his most recent project "Dandelions".
